I'd say I preferred CS2 over 1, but both were worth it and definitely are some of the best games I have played in a while. The combat system is engaging and the soundtrack is so great. I went through the games going to most of the NPCs and loved how some have their own story arcs and such. Trails of Cold Steel 1 & 2 (PS3, Vita): Both of these games were really great in their world building and establishing their setting.

I'll take a sequel gladly, but I very much doubt it happens. Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE (Wii U): The characters were likable, the combat system was a good blend of the weapon triangle from Fire Emblem and the usual combat system of most Shin Megami Tensei games (leaning mostly toward Persona in its presentation and design) while adding its own spin to it, really great presentation, the text messages were some of the funniest things I've read this year. Here are the ones I can think of and played that I think personally are some of the best: Take your pick: they're both in my personal top list for GOAT. But if you want world exploration, I don't think a JRPG does it better than X. If you want more of a story driven game, I think XBC has the JRPG story I've ever played. They're both so different, and yet I honestly can't tell you which game I'd rank over the other. My favorite JRPG one-two combo of all time. Xenoblade Chronicles 3DS (2014) and Xenoblade X (2015) The story is pretty whatever in both, kind of a reselling of classic Final Fantasy (FFIII to be specific) while making the Job system in FFV even better than it ever is in any other FF or JRPG. The music is unarguably better in the first game, but the gameplay is improved in the second. It's best to treat both of these games as one, as Second is more of an expansion of the first (uses a lot of the same assets, while adding on some new as well). The combat is so much fun, and so many options. I don't think you'll find a better, more efficient, combat system in a JRPG. There's so many good suggestions already in this thread.
